The life of a small forest community is thrown into turmoil when a strange new disease begins to spread, stirring fear, suspicion, and painful divisions. Yet fragments of ancient legend speak of the Old Ones — mysterious, seemingly magical beings, both like and unlike their kin — who may hold the secret to a cure. The Old Ones live far away, beyond the known paths, in the direction of the setting sun, in a place called the Far Oak where no one living has ever been.

Facing exile at the hands of her own leaders, an old healer gathers her foster daughter and a small band of younglings and leads them on a quest toward the Far Oak. Their journey takes them through wonders and dangers, including encounters with the mighty but destructive race known as the Skarral.

The Far Oak is a story about the good and bad sides of community, about difference, friendship, and loyalty. It is also a tale of the Ways of the Wildwood — and the natural balance that holds all things together.
